Ryan Crouser gives unique tip to start off shot put

Just last year, Ryan Crouser made a new world record by throwing an impressive 23.37 m (76 ft 8+14 in) in the Olympic trials, beating Randy Barnes’s previous record.

The 29-year-old has achieved quite a lot in his career and has more to go. Recently in an interview with AW, the athlete has revealed a unique exercise to get one started off with shot put.

He advised to go to a bowling alley and pick up the heaviest bowl, and then attempt to make a 3 quarter court shot.

“I’d say go to a bowling alley, pick up the heaviest bowling ball and try to make a three-quarter court shot from the free-throw line,” said Crouser.

According to him, this could actually be a very good exercise to get someone started off with shot put and also a good exercise for someone already into the sport.

The heaviest bowl in a typical bowling alley weighs about 16lbs, which is the same as the shot put metal ball, which also weighs 16lbs for men. For women though, the ball weighs 8.8 lbs.

Crouser’s advice might actually turn out to be good, considering both the balls weigh the same. It should suffice for good enough practice. Moreover. it will be a good beginning for someone who just wants to get the hang of the sport.

Crouser has his eyes set on World Title

Even though Crouser has numerous accolades to his name, he is yet to achieve a World Title. And that is exactly what he has his eyes set on right now.

“Reaching the World Indoors just hasn’t worked out for me in recent years, but I’m going to continue to hope that I can do one. Hopefully, I’ll make it to an indoor championship sometime before my career is done,” said Crouser.
