Ronda Rousey had a very captivating story in the UFC. And while her career ended on a low note, according to her ex-boyfriend, a former UFC heavyweight fighter, it was more dramatic only because of one person – Ronda Rousey herself.

UFC 207 was the last time MMA fans witnessed ‘The Rowdy One’ compete inside the Octagon. However, her return had a storyline that’s yet to be seen in the UFC.

Ahead of the end-of-the-year PPV in 2016 at UFC 207 – her return against then-champion Amanda Nunes, ‘The Arm Collector’ refused to do any media to promote the fight. Even UFC President Dana White accepted her wish, which allowed her to stay away from the obligated media.

This wasn’t the first instance when Rousey avoided the media. Even after her destructive defeat at UFC 193 against Holly Holm, Rousey didn’t come to face the media.

Why did Rousey refrain from coming in front of the press? Perhaps the 6-time UFC bantamweight champion felt the world was against her. However, her ex-boyfriend thought otherwise.

‘Rowdy’ and Below The Belt podcast host, Brendan Schaub, dated for a short time while Rousey was the UFC champion. On ‘The Fighter and The Kid’ podcast, Schaub commented on Rousey’s mental state ahead of UFC 207.

Schaub said, “The story that Ronda is back isn’t enough, that’s not. The story that it’s her against the world, that’s not true. She made that up. The story that the MMA media, Joe Rogan, and everyone turned their back against her when she lost and that’s why she is not doing media, is not true.”

The heavyweight athlete also claimed, “that same media is the reason why you’re such a big star.” Although he admitted, “Granted you took care of the work in the Octagon.”

Did the media and Joe Rogan turn on Ronda Rousey?

The former UFC bantamweight queen wasn’t too far from her beliefs. The longtime UFC commentator Joe Rogan made some sensational claims during her run at the top of the division. However, the JRE host admitted he hyped her too much.

As far as the media is concerned, one of the leading MMA reporters, Ariel Helwani, recently labeled Rousey as the ‘most over-hyped MMA fighter in UFC history’.

Although, former middleweight and light heavyweight title challenger, Chael Sonnen, encouraged Rousey even after agreeing with Helwani’s comment.

Thus, even to this day, Rousey is criticized for her run in the UFC, let alone the press conference obligation. However, the promotion recognized her remarkable 8-title fight run in the promotion and placed her in the UFC Hall of Fame (Modern Wing).
