Cagefighting commentator, Joe Rogan, is a Taekwondo & Brazilian jiujitsu black belt. The 55-year-old has been part of the MMA community for over two decades. From starting as a backstage interviewer to only calling UFC PPV fights, Rogan has been an integral part of the company.

Being in the business for such a long time, fans know a lot about Rogan’s martial skills as well. While his Taekwondo achievements are well known, it was not the first martial art discipline that he took.

Joe Rogan’s favorite thing in martial arts

The veteran UFC commentator started wrestling early in his life. In addition, he started doing Taekwondo. In his conversation with veteran Hollywood producer and executive on JRE episode #1871, Rogan reflected on why he went ahead with Taekwondo and not wrestling.

After discussing his street fight experiences, Rogan talked about his first step in martial arts, which he believes is one of the best bases for MMA, and how he did not pursue it further for his love for standup.

“When I wrestled, I was wrestling and then I started doing Taekwondo the same year. And I like Taekwondo a lot more.”

“I just like the idea of knocking someone unconscious. It was very exciting to me. So, that’s, so, I got involved in that,” the 55-year-old said.

The cage fighting commentator, who considers himself a professional fan of the sport, has seen multiple vicious knockouts in his life sitting on the Octagon side.

Rogan was not interested in college study and everything felt like death to him. But as he is one person who followed his passion, he found a job calling sanctioned martial arts fights.

During his tenure with the UFC, which started in 2002, Rogan has been in the broadcast booth for the most stunning knockouts in UFC history.

While Anderson Silva was ruling the world, a left hook from Chris Weidman caught ‘The Spider‘. Rogan was in the broadcast booth witnessing history unfold in front of his eyes.

The JRE host watched the UFC Hall of Famer, Ronda Rousey, getting knocked out by Holly Holm. A wild contest between Amanda Nunes and Cris Cyborg that ended in a KO.

And who can forget the reaction from Rogan and the team when Kamaru Usman shut the lights off Jorge Masvidal?

Recently, the 55-year-old witnessed one of the best strikers in the sport, Conor McGregor, getting his foot broken in a fight with Dustin Poirier at UFC 264, which ended in a technical knockout.

Thus, Rogan has been having his dose of violence through these electrifying fights, even when he is not involved as a fighter.
