PED usage might not be such a big deal in bodybuilding and is spoken about a lot, however, in other sports, it is a fruit of the poison tree. When it comes to UFC, PED usage is not tolerated by CEO Dana White. UFC keeps trying its best to prevent fighters from cheating but some do not always comply with the rules. There have been fighters who have tested positive for banned substances and ended up facing suspension. One of them was Walt Harris who was suspended for 4 years from the UFC.

Joe Rogan recently picked up the same topic in his infamous podcast and spoke about how it was “career-ending.”

While speaking about the UFC world the conversation went on to the drug tests and fighters getting a positive result. Rogan spoke about Walt Harris and said, “Someone’s doing something right [in UFC], you know they just popped up one of the UFC guys Walt Harris got four years, four years and he’s 40 so that’s essentially a career ender you know, but when you’re 40 dudes and you’re fighting and you’re training every day you’re doing two a day and three days like bro you’re fu**, your testosterone gets beat down your system gets beat down you’re you know you’re, putting a tax on your system that’s very hard to deal with at that age really oh yeah it’s a big difference. You get a guy who’s 22 years old and you put him through a fight camp that that’s a guy who can recover as long as he’s doing the right thing, he’s eating right, he’s sleeping right, he is hydrating right he can recover.”

Rogan’s point was that even though it is a crime in UFC to use PEDs, fighting takes a lot of strength and at the age of 40 it is not easy. He pointed out how getting through the training camp itself is hard enough. Meanwhile, fighters inside the octagon have to fight more than 5 rounds getting kicked and punched. There is a high level of exertion involved in this sport so maybe older athletes take PEDs as a catalyst for recovery.

As for the case of Walt Harris, the 40-year-old heavyweight from Alabama, he was suspended because he tested positive for PEDs. He tested positive for drostanalone, its metabolite 3a-hydroxy-2a-methyl-5a-androstan-17-on, and testosterone of exogenous origin. He will not be able to compete until 2027 and has not competed since he lost to Marcin Tybura in 2021. Meanwhile, another fighter was also suspended recently for testing positive for PEDs.

Khusein Askhabov was suspended because he tested positive for PEDs

The Combat Sports Anti-Doping (CSAD) came forth again and announced that the fighter from the Chechen Republic had received a two-year suspension for violation of the UFC Anti-Doping Policy. The reports came from the offices of Dana White’s new partner, Drug-Free Sport International (DFSI). They took a sample from Askhabov before the competition in Grozny.

He tested positive for Methandienone (Dianabol or D-Bol) metabolites. PEDs are strictly prohibited in UFC so it was an open-and-shut decision that the featherweight fighter would face dire consequences.
