Derrick Lewis goes in

The fan-favorite fighter spoke to the media candidly about his mindset going into a possible title eliminator via UFC News. He expressed the sentiment that he will be looking to start off strong right off the bat and pressure his opponent. Additionally, he chimed in on the importance of showcasing his abilities to the fans and his detractors.

“I think you’re gonna see something you haven’t seen from me in a long time. I’m going to come out balls blazing. I’m just going to be more active, instead of just waiting for the last 10 seconds of the fight.”

Lewis has come under fire in his past outings for failing to maintain pressure throughout the duration of the bout. His cardio under the bright lights of the cage has failed him in prior UFC appearances.

“This fight right here takes me to a new level. I’m feeling completely different in fight week than I have in the past. I feel like I’m just getting better.  Just want to show the fans and show everyone that I have gotten better.”

“I have been trigger shy”

The Houston native doubled down on his intention to start the bout with unmatched ferocity. MMA fans can expect the brawler to seek the Knockout blow from the starting horn.

“I’ve been trigger shy, I was coming in like a new creature in those fights. Coming into the octagon I’m feeling different, lighter, faster, and just wanting to test it out. Now that I’ve tested it out full force, going all three rounds in my last 2 fights I feel like I’m more comfortable that I can really let loose in the first round and not gas out.”

With a win over the Russian, Derrick Lewis will find himself on the fast track to possibly fighting the clear-cut contender in Ngannou. The two fought in a highly anticipated match-up that turned out to be a snooze fest. It appears that his newly renewed outlook to fighting is set to provide an electrifying performance.
