Adrian Yanez took on Davey Grant in his third UFC fight this year. The American-born secured a stunning win over Grant after a three-round gruesome battle. This was his third straight victory in the bantamweight division.
However, the 27-year-old got emotional after the fight and sat on the mat. Even though Yanez won the fight, it was a sad moment for him as he didn’t have his coach Saul Soliz cage side.
Saul Soliz, an MMA pioneer, and legendary coach, was a father figure to the American bantamweight fighter. Unfortunately, the head coach at Houston Metro Fight Club passed away due to Covid-19 in August.

Soliz was always in the corner for Yanez since his debut in the UFC. However, after his demise, the 27-year-old trained and won his first fight without his beloved coach. Yanez, in an interview, shared his experience of not having his coach in the gym and his journey has been since then.

He said, “It’s just been an emotional roller coaster these past couple of months. And It’s been hard not seeing him at the gym. It just s*cks cause it was supposed to be us here. It was supposed to be us climbing up to the title so I can hand him the belt.”

However, Yanez is yet to secure a position among the top-15 in the UFC bantamweight division. Interestingly, Houston’s child, after a 4-0 UFC record, wants to fight someone from the top-15 in the division.
The 15-3 professional MMA record holder is undefeated in the promotion and his run in the division so far has been incredible, considering his record. Hence, a fight with any of the top-15 seems a viable option for Yanez and a win will surely cement his position on the roster.
