UFC Fight Night: Smith vs Clark has been a tumultuous card. The main event fell apart one day before the fight, as Curtis Blaydes tested positive for COVID and pulled out. However, this fight card was still a massive opportunity for some of the fighters on the prelims.
One of these fighters was Su Mudaerji. The Chinese fighter came into this fight with a 1-1 record in the UFC. However, he absolutely demolished Malcolm Gordon in the first round with punches to notch the third-fastest finish in UFC flyweight history.

Quick finishes are relatively uncommon in the flyweight division, with the weight class having one of the longest average fight times in the UFC. One of the main reasons for this is attributed to their lack of knockout power. Well, Su Mudaerji has added to the case of flyweights with KO power. Hopefully, this leads to him generating some momentum for himself.

UFC flyweight division looking exciting after years of limbo
People forget that the UFC almost tried killing the flyweight division two years ago when TJ Dillashaw went down to face Henry Cejudo. However, Cejudo triumphed over Dillashaw, who was later suspended for using EPO by USADA. ‘Triple C’ would then go on to win the bantamweight title that Dillashaw left behind.

After Cejudo retired and vacated the flyweight belt, many wondered what was next. There was no Demetrious Johnson to come and lead the division like before. As a result, Deiveson Figueredo ended up winning the title and established himself as the most exciting champion in the company.

Su Mudaerji has a long way to go right now. He will have to climb the rankings of the division before contending for anything significant. However, finishes like the one he has had tonight go a long way in helping him build a case. He may be a lower-tier fighter right now. But, a possible performance bonus can motivate him into becoming much better than what he has shown in his young UFC career.
The fighter is now on a two-fight win streak.
