The fight was not only the first fight where Harrison lost but actually the first ever round that she has lost in her fighting career. Women’s MMA legend, Cris Cyborg, came out to lift her spirits. Cyborg’s words will definitely mean a lot to Kayla Harrison after the shocking loss.

This was the third time Kayla Harrison fought Larissa Pacheco. In their previous meetings, Harrison had won by unanimous decision. In the third meeting at Hulu Theatre, Madison Square Garden, it was the Brazilian who took the fight in a unanimous decision. All judges scored the fight 48-47 in favor of Pacheco. Former Bellator, UFC, Strikeforce, and Invicta FC champion Cris Cyborg consoled Harrison in a tweet.

The Brazilian superstar tweeted, “Tonight will only make Kayla a better fighter, One thing I learned after going 14 years undefeated is that sometimes you need to lose to become your best.” She added, “Kayla will be back and she will grow from this experience. Congrats Larissa Pacheco, you are a real-world champion.”

Kayla Harrison lost a closely contested fight

The fight was not one-sided as Kayla Harrison affected 6 takedowns. Pacheco, however, was good in ground defense. She made sure Harrison ate a lot of strikes and punches. The Brazilian also threatened with two key submission moves, damaging Harrison’s chances of winning the fight.

Kayla Harrison also became the victim of Pacheco’s sharp footwork as Pacheco landed accurate stinging shots on her face. The victory earned Pacheco a cool $1 Million in prize money.

Cris Cyborg- The fighting legend

Cris Cyborg’s suggestion and advice to Harrison come from her experience. Cyborg has been in the fighting game for a long while now and is the current rank no.1 pound-for-pound fighter in Bellator. She started her sporting career as a handball player for the Brazilian national team but soon moved on to fight. Her pro-MMA record reads 26-2-1.
