At PFL Championships 2022, Brendan Loughnane won the PFL Featherweight title and a million dollars. Loughnane’s performance seemed to have impressed McGregor, who suggested that the UFC sign him. The former double champ had more than one reason to back his suggestion.
Conor McGregor told the UFC to sign Brendan Loughnane
Brendan Loughnane fought Bubba Jenkins in the co-main event of the 2022 PFL Championships. The 32-year-old put on a dominant striking display before earning a stoppage win in the fourth round. In only his second season in PFL, the Manchester native has already secured their biggest prize. Loughnane’s performance caught the eye of ‘The Notorious‘ Conor McGregor, who asked the UFC to sign him.
The former Cage Warriors and UFC double champion had a couple of reasons to back his demand. The first of them is that Loughnane is an exciting fighter, according to McGregor.
UFC, sign Brendan Loughnane. Exciting fighter. A back story with the company. And of the European side. A money in the bank uk/Europe signing. Congrats on the win @BrendanMMA
— Conor McGregor (@TheNotoriousMMA) November 26, 2022
‘Mystic Mac’ also suggested that Loughnane would be a great signing for representing Europe and the UK in the UFC. The biggest PPV star in the history of the company sees Loughnane bringing in good money from the European and UK audiences.
McGregor also pointed to Loughnane’s history with the promotion as a favorable factor. The inspirational story of a reject earning another shot is a rather inspiring storyline.
Why the UFC did not sign Loughnane
Back in 2019, Brendan Loughnane was a hot prospect on Dana White’s Contender Series. The U.K. featherweight secured a win over opponent Bill Algeo, but to no avail. UFC president Dana White rejected Loughnane over the last 10 seconds of the fight.

According to White, Loughnane shooting for a takedown in the final ten seconds of the fight was not what he was looking for. “You’ve got 10 seconds left in the fight. Show us you want to win. Show us how bad you want it,” White defended his decision.
Almost three years removed from this heartbreaking rejection, Loughnane has earned his name as one of the hottest fighters outside the UFC. His performance was impressive enough to earn a recommendation from the biggest star in UFC history.
