Four-time BJJ world champion Mikey Musumeci is known to be the nicest guy in the world of martial arts. He’s always smiling, and humble and fans seem to love him for it. However, being a nice guy doesn’t cut it when it comes to being a competitive fighter and longtime UFC color commentator Joe Rogan claims that Musumeci is well-equipped to change his mentality with a snap.
Mikey Musumeci is one of BJJ’s biggest superstars, winning multiple champions across multiple promotions and tournaments. In one of his fights under the ONE Championship banner, the 28-year-old took on Combat Sambo world champion Gantumur Bayanduuren in 2023. Joe Rogan, with guest Belal Muhammad on the recent ‘JRE MMA Show’, watched the replay of the moment when Musumeci would catch the Sambo star in a leg lock, but Bayanduuren was not ready to tap out.
This seemingly baffled Belal Muhammad who couldn’t believe that Mike Musumeci kept putting pressure on Gantumur Bayanduuren’s, which was later reported to have been broken. “Mikey has to have some like craziness inside of him just to keep going, though,” Muhammad told Joe Rogan when the JRE host would reveal how quickly the 4-time world champion can go from a good guy to a pretty mean one. “Oh, he’s an evil little man. He’s a really, really, really nice guy, but he’s also got a switch… [when] he gets into that Octagon,” Rogan replied.

However, holding on to the leg lock despite his opponent’s knee getting compromised doesn’t mean that Mikey Musumeci didn’t have any empathy for Gantumur Bayanduuren. Joe Rogan further revealed what went down after the match, which the 28-year-old won.

Joe Rogan claims Mikey Musumeci “felt bad” after the match against Gantumur Bayanduuren
Joe Rogan claimed that Mikey Musumeci wasn’t necessarily expecting his opponent’s leg to blow up. It’s because they later found out that Gantumur Bayanduuren had broken his ankle and torn his ACL, MCL, and meniscus. “‘ Why’d you do that to me?’ That’s what Mikey said to him. He felt bad that the guy wouldn’t tap. It was a crazy demonstration, but that poor guy,” Joe Rogan added.

It certainly was crazy as Joe Rogan put it, because even Mikey Musumeci claimed that he had never witnessed someone’s knee break and twist in the way that it happened against Gantumur Bayanduuren. “I never felt someone’s leg explode like that in a match [because] I’ve been training for 22 years, [and] I never broke someone’s leg that much. I’ve broken a lot of legs, but that leg exploded [and] I didn’t know what to do and it was just disgusting and gross,” said a nauseated Musumeci.

Meanwhile, Mikey Musumeci recently found himself in a situation where his good-guy image was at stake. He was supposed to defend his ONE Championship Flyweight title, but he missed weight by a considerable margin and, as a result, his championship was taken away from him. Musumeci even withdrew from the fight.
