Khabib Nurmagomedov issued a statement on social media expressing that he won’t be fighting on April 18th because of travel restrictions. Further, he went to Abu Dhabi as per the instructions from UFC. However, since he did not get any further information about the venue, he returned home to Dagestan after Abu Dhabi decided to close their borders.
Considering this information, one cannot blame Khabib Nurmagomedov for the cancellation of the title fight. The fighter, as well as the fans, are still clueless about the location of UFC 249. Then how can we expect Khabib to fly down to the US when there is no confirmation whether the event will take place?

However, Conor McGregor did not agree with Khabib. He criticized the lightweight champion for deciding not to fight at UFC 249. The Irishman claimed that he is in shape to fight on April 18th. Additionally, the former lightweight champion declared Tony Ferguson the winner of this “game of chicken”. Conor said:
“The fact of this matter is, both Tony and Khabib where engaged in a game of chicken here towards the fight bell. With Khabib chickening out first. Making it 3-2 in pullouts in Tony’s favor. Khabib scurried out of the U.S to home, and amid the crisis. Very high risk. Congrats Tony.”

‘The Eagle’ hit back at Conor in a recent interview with Bret Okamoto, reminding the Irish fighter what happened when they fought at UFC 229. He said:
“How he right now in good shape? How he can talk about shape? When I smash his face, he says it was my bad shape. I was without shape, bla bla bla. Now he talks about I am in good shape, I can come in. A couple of days ago, he sends a message. Hey people, take care of family, stay home, the government asks us to stay home. A couple of days ago, now he talks about he is in good shape. Someone had to fight someone had to fly. I know this is like fake. For me it’s fake. I was always real.”
