Chandler was the stand-in for the Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Justin Gaethje fight at UFC 254. However, with both fighters making it to the Octagon, ‘Iron’ Chandler’s services were not needed on Fight Island.
Subsequently, the former Bellator champion turned his attention to Tony Ferguson. He gave the 35-year-old his props and called him ‘the scariest fighter’ in the division.
The fight will represent a significant step up in competition for ‘Iron’ Mike; A win would be the ideal way to make his UFC debut.

UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov seemingly retired in the Octagon post his UFC 254 win. Consequently, the lightweight division has been lit up with the title up for grabs again.
Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier are currently in negotiations to fight in January. A potential Ferguson vs Chandler fight could set up a run-in with the winner for the next title opportunity.
Many fans believe Ferguson is the answer to Khabib’s ground game. However, with the fight falling through no less than five times, it’s hard to see UFC booking the duo again. The fans though, would be delighted to see Tony Ferguson win a very deserved lightweight title belt. Does his path to the summit need to see him fight Michael Chandler?
