Mike Perry has been making the news recently due to a video that shows him knocking out someone older than him outside a club. After watching the video, most people believe that Perry is at fault in the situation. However, former welterweight champ Tyron Woodley isn’t coming to that conclusion so easily.
The video, which went viral on social media, showed Perry saying the N-word several times. A girl was attempting to escort Mike out of the club after he had raised his hand on a staff. However, Perry wanted to stay in case they called the cops, probably because he wanted to tell his side of the story to them. This was when a man, quite older than Perry, walked towards him.

This is pretty disgusting behaviour from a UFC calibre fighter. Acting like a complete child. pic.twitter.com/ZAuxZTtXtW

In a heated environment, Perry only required a single punch to drop the man on the ground. It was pretty evident that we were witnessing the same Mike Perry that showed up with only his girlfriend in the corner and still managed a dominant unanimous decision.
Tyron Woodley argues that when the audience feeds off a certain behavior in a fighter, it’s not right to banish him for the same.
“You’re giving Mike Perry the credit for the rationale and the thought process that we love him for not having. We love him for not giving a f**k. We love him for that, we pay him for that, we glorify him for that, we make so many promo kits around that. Him flying out here with his girlfriend and no cornermen,” Woodley said while appearing on TMZ’s Hollywood Beatdown.
Tyron Woodley compares Mike Perry’s incident to that of Conor McGregor
This is not the first time that a UFC fighter has punched someone older than him in a club. Conor McGregor was involved in a pretty similar incident in August last year. ‘The Notorious One’ ended up punching an old man in the head. However, he didn’t knock him out. The man didn’t even need medical attention, unlike Perry’s case.

Tyron Woodley compared the two incidents and said that Conor didn’t receive any significant punishment for the same. Woodley was arguing that it wouldn’t be correct to have different standards for different fighters.
“But now we’re going to slap him on the hand? Cause now the rationale that he doesn’t use, he doesn’t use it in the Octagon, he just swings like he’s crazy, knocking everybody or get knocked out. It’s what we glorify him for. But now you want to input him with the rationale and the thought process to what we quote-unquote call normal.”

“We can’t do that. We can’t monetize off of him and his ability to not have a filter and then all of a sudden go back and try to reprimand that for him,” Woodley added.
Following the controversy, Perry hasn’t spoken to the media. The only word that fans have received from his the “No Comment” that he tweeted. The UFC released a statement that they would be giving all possible help to Perry. However, he wouldn’t be fighting any time soon.
