The Irish fighter is back with a bang. With Khabib reigning over the UGC Lightweight Championship, the two are bound to meet again.

The President of the UFC, Dana White too, predicts that Conor’s next fight will be against Khabib. And while Dana is nervous about the matchup, he is excited as well, because the last time Khabib and Conor met, UFC created a new record of commercial success.

Dana’s nervousness is understandable, as the last time the two met, chaos ensued.

The fight ended with Khabib defeating McGregor. But the Russian had more fight in him. Khabib jumped over the walls of the octagon and plunged himself on Conor’s teammates. It took the authorities quite some time to bring the brawl under control. Dana White later said that it was one of the most embarrassing moments in UFC history.

The Governor of the state was also in attendance and literally fled the scene to ensure his safety, as he felt threatened amid such a rowdy and dangerous environment.

But what led to so much enmity between the two fighters?

Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor: The rivalry unfolded

There was a time when Khabib and Conor were friends, not just colleagues who didn’t mind each other’s presence.

After a certain point in time, when McGregor made Lightweight his dominion, the two became more of potential opponents.

The hatred between the two transpired after an incident involving both their teams. The friendly rivalry took a dark turn on April 3, when Khabib attacked Conor’s teammate Artem Lobov. This was in response to some comments made by Lobov pertaining to Khabib’s teammate.

Reportedly, McGregor got on a plane from Dublin to New York as soon as he heard about the incident. Soon after, the bus attack took place, wherein Conor and his team attacked a bus that held Khabib and other UFC fighters.

Conor received a lot of backlash from the media and the UFC organization for his actions. While Conor made an apologetic statement for his actions, The Notorious then began using his infamous wit to put Khabib down whenever the opportunity presented itself.

And it has been downhill ever since. Khabib even stated that if he and Conor were ever in a room together, a fight would definitely break out, even going to the extent of police involvement.
