April has not been good to UFC reporter Laura Sanko. First, she was all set to return to work at UFC 249 in the Tachi Palace Casino Resort. However, ESPN canceled the event and channel higher-ups asked Dana White to stand down. Days after that, on Easter, she faced a harrowing incident. Sanko shared her story on MMA Fighting’s “What the Heck” with Mike Heck.

UFC Reporter’s residence robbed on Easter Sunday

Sanko said, “If people follow me on Instagram, they probably know I live on a farm — technically a ranch because we only have cattle. We have 150 acres here, but what’s unique about it is I don’t actually live in the country. Out one window, I can see the golf course that’s connected to the country club. There’s a neighborhood right next to us, and another neighborhood on the other side.”

“But we have this big chunk of farmland, so we have farm equipment. We have 35 head of cattle and we do that whole thing, so it is a working farm in that respect. We woke up Easter morning and a big piece of farm equipment had been stolen. It was our Polaris Ranger and a bunch of tools.”

She revealed that the stolen equipment was worth $20,000, and further described the perpetrator as “not ultra-intelligent.” The thief, when breaking into her property, went through the fence. On a light-hearted note, Sanko stated that she’d rather have opened the gate for the perpetrator. Putting back a broken fence is “an absolute motherf***er, to be polite about it.”

“Feeling like I have zero control over my life right now”

The couple did not have security cameras. However, law enforcement has an idea of how what the perpetrators look like, thanks to the neighbor’s security cam footage. Sanko adds that she will install security cameras where the couple stores their farm equipment.

UFC will return on May 9 from Jacksonville, Florida with 3 events in 7 days. We can surely expect Sanko to be there as she was part of the reporting team assigned to work at the previous attempt to host an event.
