Tyron Woodley is looking for redemption and desperately needs a victory to revive his dominance in the UFC welterweight division.

Woodley is being touted to face Colby Covington next. The former champion billed it to be one of the biggest fights of his career. Woodley has been riding a winless high for the past two years.

In fact, The Chosen One is coming off of two consecutive losses at the hands of Kamaru Usman and Gilbert Burns. It’s no wonder that the former champion saw a frequent decline in his UFC rankings.

Tyron Woodley reviews his past opponents with to compare Colby Covington

As per Woodley, his last two opponents- Usman and Burns did not ignite the animosity within him. That said. ‘The Chosen One’ believes Covington is going to do that.

While interacting on the Real Quick With Mike Swick Podcast, Woodley justified his recent losses and revealed why Covington is going to be different than his last two opponents.

“I feel like (Kamaru) Usman and Gilbert (Burns) are kind of goofy. I didn’t feel no animosity towards them, no real rah-rah, but I felt that with Colby, and with some of the other guys, I felt that urgency because of how good they were,” said Woodley.

Before ending up on the losing side, Welterweight Champion Woodley seemed invincible in UFC. Apart from the UFC gold, Woodley was sitting on an impressive six-fight win streak.

He has already beaten some elite welterweights over the course of his journey to the top of the food chain.

In the recent interview, Woodley revealed how different were his past encounters with those veterans.

“Carlos Condit, Robbie Lawler. Those guys are OG’s, natural-born killer, ruthless, Gorilla. All these f*** different monstrous fighters that I gotta bring it to them because they sure f*** bring it to me. I think Colby is going to bring me that.

“The first time I get that opponent, the press conference, we just probably gonna break the internet,” claimed Woodley.

The fall of ‘The Chosen One’

Tyron ‘The Chosen One’ Woodley lost his welterweight strap to the Nigerian Nightmare when the duo met at UFC 235 in 2019. It forced the American fighter to step back from UFC for over a year.

However, he faced another crushing defeat against Gilbert Burns in his first fight following his return this year. It comes as no surprise that the slew of losses has challenged his worth and dominance in one of the most prestigious promotions in the world.

Nonetheless, the 38-year-old believes that his upcoming fight would bolster his claim to the throne. If not, Woodley would have to take up more fights to find his way to the top again.

Woodley is currently the fifth-ranked welterweight. A couple of more victories and he can aim the welterweight strap once again.
