UFC 249 will have a different ‘feel’ this year, with Joe Rogan announcing he won’t be commentating during the event. Rogan made the decision due to the current pandemic which has seen the whole world come to a standstill. Joe is a veteran in the sport and has been a part of the UFC since 1997.
“I guess someone’s going to commentate it – it’s not gonna be me UFC is talking about putting on a fight on April 18. And I don’t know how they’re gonna do that. I don’t know if they’re gonna be able to do that in the United States. They’re talking about doing it in a place with less than 10 people, just in an open arena,” said Rogan on his podcast.
Despite the various health concerns, Dana White has assured the fight will go on. The UFC boss has been called out by many for being adversarial to the concerns surrounding the virus. White confirmed that the fight is on for 18th April, although a location hasn’t been confirmed, the event is set to take place behind closed doors.

Addressing the situation, Joe Rogan said “The thing is, how are they going to make sure nobody has it?. You’re going to have to test everybody. And if someone has it, do you let them fight? What if they have it, and they’re like Idris Elba, and they have no symptoms, but they’ve got the corona? What if Khabib has the corona? Or what if Tony has the corona? Does Khabib even fight him?
With so much on the line for both fighters, we can only hope the fight goes on without any further complications.
