With an impressive performance over Tyron Woodley, Gilbert Burns certainly caught the attention of Dana White.
Before his bout with Woodley, Burns was on a five-fight win streak. Even though Burns won his last fight against Demian Maia by a brutal TKO, critics counted him out against ‘ The Chosen One.’
Burns, however, stunned everyone when he dominated Woodley less than 24 hours ago. No matter where the fight went, ‘Durinho’ outclassed the American. He even managed to knock down the former champion twice in the match.

Gilbert Burns makes it to Dana White’s Top 5 welterweights
Although the official UFC rankings are yet to be updated, White already considers Burns a top 5 challenger. The UFC juggernaut was impressed with Burns’ performance.
“He looked incredible man. Anywhere the fight goes if it’s standing if they wrestle. If it goes to the ground, his jiu-jitsu is ridiculous. Great leg kicks, great kicks to the head, I mean that kid can do anything. And he’s aggressive,” White told the media during UFC on ESPN 9 post-fight press conference.
“I actually thought that he would fight more aggressively than he did tonight. But you gotta be careful with somebody as dangerous as Woodley.”
The UFC’s welterweight division is arguably the most talent stacked division in the company. As of now, Kamaru Usman enjoys the privilege of being called the champion. Tyron is the #1 contender but that may change soon.
“He’s into the top five. I mean the kid breaks into the top five. The welterweight division looks incredible now,” Dana said. “You got [Kamaru] Usman, you got him, you got [Colby] Covington, [Leon] Edwards, and [Jorge] Masvidal. It’s awesome.”
The landscape of the welterweight division
Originally, Woodley was slated to fight Edwards in London. But that fight fell apart due to the pandemic. Masvidal is on the sidelines since his fight with Nate Diaz. And Colby fought for the title just a few months ago.
