Her career resurgence came as she finally made the move up to the 125-pound division. Cynthia’s struggles in cutting weight have been well documented and it would lead to her struggling at the 115-pound weight class.
What’s next for Cynthia Calvillo?
After beating the former challenger in Eye, Calvillo has become a top-ranked contender in a relatively shallow division. She spoke about potentially fighting the winner of an upcoming contender match-up between Roxanne Modafferi and Lauren Murphy.
Chiefly her focus remains on securing a title shot against dominant strawweight queen Valentina Shevchenko. ‘The Bullet’ has only lost to female GOAT Amanda Nunes other than a lone loss back in 2010. She has put on sensationally dominant performances and brutalized all contenders to date.

“Once the day [comes that] I get matched up [with Valentina Shevchenko], I’m pretty sure everybody’s going to think I’m going to get my ass kicked, like super easy. Styles make fights and I think I have probably the best grappling in the division that can probably give her a run for her money.”
Calvillo will have an uphill task to dethrone the current dominant champion in Shevchenko. However, the new contender feels she has the tools required to become the 125-pound queen.
