It was Khabib Nurmagomedov who was supposed to defend his title against Tony Ferguson at UFC 249. However, due to the pandemic that fight fall apart and Gaethje replaced him to headline UFC 249. And that leaves Conor McGregor without any opponent.

Conor McGregor was speculated to fight for the lightweight title against the winner of Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson. However, since Tony and Justin are fighting for the interim title, the winner is guaranteed to fight Khabib Nurmagomedov next. However, Conor wants to return to the octagon in July. But it did not seem feasible since Conor had no opponents to take on.

Conor McGregor vs Nate Diaz 3 is on?

Well, not anymore. During a recent back and forth with Nate Diaz, Conor McGregor gave a huge hint for the trilogy fight. Conor said:

“Shut your eyelid and sign the contract”.

After making an emphatic return against Anthony Pettis, Nate Diaz lost a high profile fight against the BMF, Jorge Masvidal. And he is also currently sitting on the sideline without an opponent. And that makes it, even more, easier for UFC to book the long-awaited third fight between Diaz and McGregor.
