UFC 248 concluded with a fight between two of the biggest names in the middleweight division, Israel Adesanya and Yoel Romero. Though the match concluded with the former’s victory, it left many viewers, including UFC President Dana White, disappointed and craving for more.
Adesanya and Romero‘s can be best viewed as a chess match, where both strikers were waiting for their opponent to make a mistake. The fight lacked so much action that the referee had to advise both men to engage.

Even more disappointing was the fighter’s inability to live up to the hype of the match. Instead of being mad at themselves, both fighters were disappointed with their opponent.
Dana White regrets making Adesanya vs Romero
The lackluster performance disappointed Dana White, as he expressed his displeasure in the post-fight press conference.
“Hindsight is 20/20 – probably shouldn’t have done that fight and should’ve waited for Costa.”

White said, “The matchmakers didn’t love that fight and didn’t want to make that fight. They did not want to make Adesanya vs Romero.”
Before fighting Adesanya, Romero was on a 2 fight losing streak. He had fought for the title twice against Robert Whittaker, losing both fights.
White further said, “The goofy fan in me said, are you sh**ting me? This is a fun fight to do. And the fact that he wants to fight a guy that nobody wants to fight, now hindsight is 20/20 – probably shouldn’t have done that fight and should’ve waited for Costa.”

Originally, Adesanya was poised to fight Paula Costa, who defeated Romero last August to become the #1 contender. Unfortunately, an injury forced Costa to delay his title shot.

Dana White also revealed that Adesanya vs Romero did not make sense to the matchmakers.
“Can’t tell the matchmakers anything that does not make sense. Everything has to make sense to those two.” Dana White told the media.
