Woodley remained passive throughout the fight, while Burns was constantly on the offensive. The ground control in Woodley’s favor was a meager 0:02 as compared to Burns’ 4:57.

Burns executed terrific takedowns to dominate Woodley. However, Woodley also managed to defend most takedown events. If not for that, it would have turned into an even uglier scenario for the former champion.
However, it appears that the BJJ expert, Burns, was prepared for Woodley’s amazing takedown defense. As Daniel Cormier highlighted in the post-fight interview with Burns, his striking was way better than what one would expect from a person who inclines towards the ground game.
Burns explained that he prepares for any and all scenarios. He mixed his heavy punches with crunching kicks to the body and the legs. While Woodley landed 43 strikes and 18 significant strikes, Gilbert contrasted with an impressive 85 strikes and 55 significant strikes.
