Dana White has finally announced the date for the much-awaited trilogy between Daniel Cormier and Stipe Miocic. The fight will take place on August 15th. However, Dana refrained from announcing the location as it was still undecided.

The UFC President made the revelation while appearing on ESPN’s First Take. Before the official announcement, both Miocic and Cormier had hinted that the fight has been finalized. Cormier had also revealed that he had signed on the dotted line. The two were having a little back-and-forth on social media as well.

The confirmation of the fight is welcome news for the entire division. With the fight being signed, the division can plan on moving forward. DC has made it clear that win or lose, this will be the last fight of his professional career. On the other hand, the 38-year old Miocic has also hinted at retirement. However, he has not made anything concrete.

Apart from the fans, Francis Ngannou will also be very happy after the official confirmation of the fight. Yesterday, he fired shots at Cormier and Miocic for not signing the contract. When the official confirmation was made Ngannou must have had a sigh of relief. “The division is finally moving on!” Ngannou commented.

The history between Daniel Cormier and Stipe Miocic

Both Cormier and Miocic have a claim for being the greatest Heavyweight in UFC history. Stipe holds the record for defending the Heavyweight belt the maximum number of times. On the other hand, it was Cormier who prevented that number from going higher by stopping Miocic in their first fight.

The first meeting between the two took place in July 2018. Cormier came into the fight as the UFC Light Heavyweight champ. He was looking to add another belt to his collection. The fight was evenly poised while it lasted. Cormier, however, did poke Miocic in the eye. The former Strikeforce champ managed to knock out the then Heavyweight champ in the very first round itself.

The second meeting between the two took place last year in August. Cormier had already defended the belt once against Derrick Lewis. Meanwhile, Miocic had his first outing since Cormier took the belt away from him. Cormier was dominating the proceedings in the fight. However, he had no answer for the body shots thrown by Miocic.

Cormier paid the price of the unanswered body shots and went down in the fourth round. Miocic, thus, regained the belt and in the process set up the trilogy as well.
