UFC 253, which wrapped up this weekend at Fight Island, saw new a light-heavyweight champion crowned that wasn’t named Daniel Cormier or Jon Jones after 10 years.

In a contest for the vacant title, top contenders Dominick Reyes and Jan Blachowicz fought in a five-round co-main event.

After devastating Reyes with hard body kicks, Blachowicz connected with a solid hook to the head late in the second round. This buckled Reyes’ legs and sent him crashing down to the canvas. He then followed it up with a vicious ground and pound strikes to make the referee step in and stop the contest.

Post the event, Blachowicz received a hero’s welcome by the people back in his home country of Poland. He then got an invitation by the Prime Minister himself to his office.

Following this he posted the pictures of his meeting with the Prime Minister on his twitter account captioned “Thank you for the invitation from the Prime Minister @MorawieckiM.

“Both for me and the MMA community, it proves that our discipline is not only popular but also noticeable by the most important people in Poland. It is an honor to be an ambassador of this amazing sport.

Further, in the comments section, he added “I hope that after our conversation, the Prime Minister will be waiting in front of the TV, regardless of the time, to watch my next fight;)

A look at the dominant performance by Jan Blachowicz and his post-fight interview

The Polish powerhouse finally realized his dream of becoming a world champion at 37. He had made his UFC debut in 2014 against Ilir Latifi, where he won by TKO in the first round.

Having his share of ups and downs in his career, Jan Blachowicz got his first title shot against the Dominick Reyes, who had already fought once for the title. He seized the moment and surprised everyone as the underdog.

Blachowicz immediately called out the former champion Jon Jones in the post-fight interview, as the latter had vacated the belt citing a move to heavyweight. Now, there isn’t any assurance of when Jones will be back, and when he does, in what division. But what can be said is Blachowicz has worked very hard for the title and should savor the moment.
