Trilogies are often one of the certified fights that can draw the attention of the public. However, it depends more on the result of the first two encounters. In the case of Alexander Volkanovski vs Max Holloway, the result has been the same in the first two fights. Regardless, Dana White isn’t closing the door on a trilogy between the two featherweights.
Holloway and Volkanovski met for the first time at UFC 245 in December last year. The fight was close with Volkanovski edging out the erstwhile champ via a unanimous decision. Given Max’s stature as one of the best featherweight of all time and the close nature of the fight, the UFC booked a rematch between the two.
The second meeting, which took place last weekend at Fight Island, raised more questions than it answered. With Volkanovoski winning via a split decision, the fight was, even more, closer than the first one. Fans and the media were divided over who won the contest, with a large majority favoring Holloway.

While talking to Kevin Iole of Yahoo! Sports, Dana White agreed that the fight was extremely close. However, he wants to give the champ and the challenger a little time to relax before he decides on the trilogy.
“It’s probably not tough to give him the third fight considering how that thing went down. But I don’t know. Let both these guys go home, spend some time,” Dana White said.

Given the nature of the UFC 251 fight for the 145-pound belt, it could have gone either way. However, a large chunk of people didn’t agree with the judges’ decision to award Volkanovski the win. The UFC supremo felt that it wasn’t right for Volkanovski to go back home with the belt and be told that he doesn’t deserve it.
“It sucks for Volkanovski, to have the title, go home, with everybody saying ‘you didn’t win the fight, you didn’t win the fight. He won the fight. He won the fight. He got the decision. You can agree with it, disagree with it, whatever you want. The judges that night gave him the fight,” White added.

Given the unexpected nature of the times that we are in right now, Dana White isn’t thinking too far ahead of himself. He is still hoping his existing plans play out the way he expects them to. White said that he will be going back to the drawing board to decide what to do with Holloway and Volkanovski.
