The cursed match is called off yet again. Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Tony Ferguson will not see the light of day for the fifth time as the lightweight champion puts the final nail in the coffin.
Khabib Nurmagomedov recently shared his thoughts on the chaos surrounding his fight at UFC 249 by saying:
I understand everything and I’m definitely upset more than you to cancel the fight, probably like all others, I had many plans after the fight, but I can’t control it all. The greatest countries and the largest companies of our time are shocked by what is happening. Every day the situation changes unpredictably. But Khabib still has to fight, is that what you saying? Take care of yourself and put yourself in my shoes.”

Khabib’s statement clearly shows his feelings towards the fight, originally set for April 18. Unfortunately, though Khabib’s reasoning is sound, the news of the fight getting canceled again has disappointed the MMA community.
Tony Ferguson puts Khabib Nurmagomedov on blast
Khabib’s opponent and the number one title contender, Tony Ferguson, reacted to the news by saying:
“Khabib, I believe that he already knew that he wasn’t going to fight. He had the opportunity to come back from Abu Dhabi dude. He has the power to take a plane and be able to come back. This is the second time we punked him out. I have been doing the exact same thing for eight years. To and from work, throwing in there and busting my ass, and making sure I take care of business. I am a Hitman. Khabib and Conor run around with a tail between their legs. Like a fucking dog. I run with dogs man, these guys are not dogs, they are a bunch of pussies. Khabib is a bitch.”

Many questions remain unanswered. Moreover, UFC has reached out to Justin Gaethje to fight Tony Ferguson on short notice. However, months ago, Gaethje clarified that he will not fight Khabib or Tony without a full training camp. Further, Conor McGregor, who was on standby for this fight, cannot leave Ireland due to the travel restrictions as well.
Fans have received statements from Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson. And now the fans look towards to the UFC president, Dana White, to give the final confirmation regarding UFC 249.
