Ever since Francis Ngannou overcame Jairzinho Rozenstruik with an astounding knockout, he has been looking to take up new challenges. Amid talks of a potential title fight, Jon Jones’ name has been popping up as well. And it seems like Alistair Overeem has a fair idea of how the Jones vs Ngannou fight will pan out.
Ngannou’s 20 second knockout of Rozenstruik marks his fourth consecutive knockout win. The longest fight of those lasted no longer than 71 seconds.
Therefore, the question of Ngannou’s next victim in the octagon has been one of the hottest topics in the MMA circuit as of late.

Ngannou’s next opponent should ideally be the UFC heavyweight champion, Stipe Miocic. However, things are rarely that straightforward.
Jon Jones and Francis Ngannou have recently been beefing over social media. Consequently, both fighters have expressed a deep interest in squaring up against each other.
“I’ve been seeing that online, I love that idea of them two. I just love it. I definitely think Jon can beat him,” said Overeem while in conversation with Ariel Helwani.

And as far as Alistair Overeem is concerned, he has a unique vantage point, with respect to this potential matchup. Having spent time training alongside Jones and been at the receiving end of Ngannou’s thunderous left hand.
“It’s a complex situation, but I definitely think Jon can beat him. It would be mega-fight. So it’s definitely something I am very much looking forward to. I really enjoy these guys smack talking back and forth. It’s really amusing, and hopefully, it will produce some great, great mega fights,” said Overeem.
Alistair Overeem feels Jon Jones will duck a fight against Francis Ngannou
When you come to think of it, Jones has no real reason to take on Ngannou. He has too much to lose and not enough to gain if he takes the fight.
Ngannou is not the heavyweight champion yet. Therefore, if Jones goes up against Ngannou, he is practically risking his light heavyweight title for nothing.
“To be honest, with all due respect, I do not think Jon is gonna do that fight. [He has] not much to win, a lot to lose. Because if he wins, he’s not heavyweight champion. The fight after that would be for the title, I guess,” claims Overeem

Even though Jones has nothing more left to prove as a light heavyweight, holding back and waiting for Ngannou to become the heavyweight champion and then taking him on makes more sense.

However, that possibility rests entirely on whether Ngannou can prevent the past from repeating itself. Since, the last time The Predator took on Ngannou, he did not fare so well, losing the fight to the reigning heavyweight champion via unanimous decision.
