In March 2020, Deiveson Figueiredo defeated Joseph Benavidez in round two by KO/TKO. Still, he did not receive the title because he had unfortunately defaulted in the weigh-in. Since then, he was awaiting the rematch to again post a win, and that happened in UFC Fight Island 2.
Figueiredo is a hard-hitter, and his arsenal includes armbars and quick takedowns to dominate opponents. On the other hand, Benavidez makes use of his athleticism, wrestling skills, and multi-target attacks to outclass his challengers. However, it appeared that nothing really worked well for the 35-YO American MMA fighter.

Joseph Benavidez looked totally drained out after his loss
Finally, a vacant title found its champion shoulder in Deiveson Figueiredo. There were just 12 seconds remaining for the round one to end when Deiveson got his best on Joseph. Submitting to the pain was the only option left with Joseph as a rear-naked choke worked well for Deiveson.

Later, in the post-fight media conference, the Beefcake said, “It’s weird, I’ve died 100 times, what’s another death? It’s different because I know I did everything right in preparation, I didn’t take any shortcuts.” UFC reporter Aaron Bronsteter has posted a series of tweets containing all the excerpts.

The best part, when he said, “I’m not going out like that”, hinting he is going to stay around. He felt crazy for taking punches and getting beaten up early in the morning.
Joseph is just grateful and feels blessed

Joseph now has an MMA record of 28-7-0 as #2 in the flyweight division. The man has been defeated twice since his loss to Sergio Pettis. He talked like a true champion in his address to the media. He was brave enough to accept his loss. At the same time, he sounded kind enough to pay gratitude towards the opportunity he received not once, but many times.
"I'm grateful."
