UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman took to Twitter and fired verbal jabs at his former opponent and top 170-pounder Colby Covington. ‘Chaos’ passed his comments on the recent news that the NBA, MLB, and other leagues had boycotted their upcoming games. However, Usman didn’t appreciate Colby’s viewpoint and made his point alarmingly clear.
The two fighters have no love lost for each other and have engaged in a brewing beef for years. Chiefly, ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ finished Covington in the fifth round of their title unification bout at UFC 245.

The welterweights are on a collision course once again, and they could participate in an ever bigger bout. Given their shared history, the UFC brass will never hesitate to book a fight that is sure to bring many eyeballs. Moreover, ‘Chaos’ Covington vehemently protested the stoppage in their first fight and is keen to run it back.
Kamaru Usman vs Colby Covington: An overview
Usman has separated himself from the competition in his most recent bouts by completely dominating his opponents. Ever since he actualized UFC gold against Tyron Woodley, he’s been putting a stamp on his performances. Also, his distaste for Covington certainly translates into the octagon with more ferocious outings.
Kamaru Usman last competed at UFC 251, an event that took place on Yas Island. He squared off against bonafide star Jorge Masvidal and won via a unanimous decision on the judges’ scorecards. He is likely to continue his upward trajectory as the undisputed champion and climb the pound-for-pound list.
Colby Covington had a spectacular run through the UFC’s welterweight division until he met ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’. He accrued wins over massive names such as Demian Maia, Robbie Lawler, and Rafael dos Anjos on the way to an interim strap. Additionally, his loss to Usman did little in the way of damaging his stock.
The Oregan native remains one of the biggest marquee names on the roster and is a compelling presence. His goal seems to clinch a rematch with Usman and contesting for undisputed gold. His upcoming opponent is slated to be Tyron Woodley in a bout that is over two years in the making.
A victory over ‘The Chosen One’ would go a long way in finally wrangling a rematch with Usman. Despite the long wait, there is still plenty of anticipation surrounding his next fight against Woodley.
