Former UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez revealed he sympathized with Donald Cerrone after his knockout loss to Conor McGregor. Alvarez suffered a similar fate at the hands of ‘The Notorious’ losing the lightweight title by a devastating knockout. Cerrone lost to McGregor in 40 seconds, with Conor executing a perfect roundhouse kick to finish the fight.

“I felt bad for cowboy because I know what it’s like to be in that situation to not be your true self and not go out there and show who you are. We know what cowboy Cerrone is and what he can do and I empathize with him in a way like f*** man. But you know Conor came out and put on a hell of a show” said Alvarez
many had predicted Cowboy to push McGregor to the edge, given his excellent grappling and stand up game. However, McGregor sensed an opportunity in the clinch, using various level changes and his shoulders to batter Ceronne. Alvarez had suffered a similar fate during their encounter, with McGregor making history on that night.
Alvarez mentioned he’s more interested in seeing McGregor box rather than a return to the octagon.
“I think Conor would put Tony away, I’d like to see him face Gaethje. I don’t know maybe boxing. I’d love to see it. I’d probably want to see him box rather than fight Khabib again. I don’t like the style match-up for him with Khabib. And I don’t think he has enough experience in that realm to overcome Khabib. I like seeing him box, he did a lot better against Mayweather than I thought he would do. I’d like to see him get in there with maybe a ‘c’ level guy.” said Alvarez

McGregor’s return to the octagon is on hold due to the ongoing pandemic. Moreover, with Khabib not fighting next month and the other contenders matched up against each other, it might be a while before we see ‘The Notorious’ return to the octagon.
