Khabib Nurmagomedov and Justin Gaethje will clash for the UFC Lightweight Championship, come October 24, 2020. The bout promises to be one of the finest Lightweight battles in the history of the UFC. The undefeated ‘Eagle‘ will see perhaps his greatest challenge in the unpredictable powerhouse, Justin Gaethje.

Both athletes acknowledge the grave danger that the other holds. However, Khabib also seems certain of his own capabilities. On an Instagram post by Joe Rogan depicting the danger that ‘The Highlight Reel‘ poses, Khabib commented,

“Justin is a very nice guy and [a] good opponent for me. But when the Octagon [closes], he [has] to be ready not only [for a] boxing match. I’m not Dustin or Tony. I will take him to the deepest ocean and drown him.”

Strong words coming from the championship corner. Of course, while he did not forget to maintain a degree of respect, he did convey his message loud and clear. He is not letting his aim of 30-0 slip away.

However, one response to the comment reignited hopes for an age-old rivalry, perhaps the bitterest in UFC history. ‘The Notorious‘ Conor McGregor took to Twitter to respond to Khabib’s comment. He wrote-

“In other words- ‘I’m going to be running around the outside of the cage. And within the first ten seconds of the fight, I’m diving at his legs for a good whiff for his jockstrap.”

Conor McGregor takes a hit at Khabib Nurmagomedov, yet again

The rivalry between Nurmagomedov and McGregor may never end. Unfortunately for the latter, there does not seem to be any fight inbound between the two, so that he could try to settle the score.

However, his recent social media activity does suggest that he will come out of retirement as soon as he can. And with the comments on Khabib’s excessive use of wrestling to dominate a game, it seems that the Irishman has an opponent in mind.

Nevertheless, whether the UFC will make this fight is highly unpredictable. This is because, if Khabib wins the fight, he will only fight once more to achieve his target of 30-0. And the Dagestani wants to fight Georges St-Pierre for his final showing.

Furthermore, even if Conor does want to get to the Russian and avenge his loss, he will have to fight once to gain credibility in the division. And according to Dana White, McGregor most definitely will not be fighting in 2020. Thus, there seem to be very slim chances of McGregor vs Khabib 2 materializing ever again.

Do you think that there could be a possible scenario wherein the two clash again?
