Fight Island is one of the biggest if not the biggest undertaking in UFC history. It has seen the company cordon off an entire island, build testing centers, rooms for fighters. This is to help fighters stay socially distanced. In addition to this, the company has built an octagon on the beach. Despite all this and the prospect of 3 championship fights on one night, Conor McGregor continues to be part of the discussions. Dana White cleared the air on this and shared his position regarding the future of the retired Irish superstar.

In a chat with Colin Cowherd on ‘The Herd,’ the UFC President said that it is usual for athletes to go through this phase. He opines that wealth allows them to cherry-pick exactly what they want.

White said, “What’s going on with Conor McGregor is what goes on with all professional athletes when they become extremely wealthy. Conor McGregor is rich. He gets to pick and choose what he wants to do now. And he’s at that point in his career where he’s got a few fights left.”

Dana White wouldn’t be surprised to see Conor McGregor return

As ‘Notorious’ is only 31-years-old, White isn’t wrong in believing that the UFC’s first simultaneous two-division champion has a few fights left in him. Despite McGregor’s shocking announcement soon after UFC 250, White added that it wouldn’t surprise him if the Irish fighter returned.

“As of right now, he’s retired, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he came out and wanted to fight somebody next year after all these different fights play out.”

It would not surprise a lot of UFC fans. This is because ‘Notorious’ has called time on his career twice before and has returned soon thereafter. Furthermore, McGregor revealed that the retirement was due to him being tired of just sitting around.

It seems that the company is big on Conor McGregor returning. This is because they have yet to expunge him from the UFC rankings. In contrast, the UFC removed Henry Cejudo a few short weeks after his UFC 249 retirement.
