UFC 249 cemented the future of the UFC lightweight title. Khabib Nurmagomedov to take on Justin Gaethje to defend his title. However, among all this, Conor McGregor and his future in the division are still up in the air.

McGregor and Nate Diaz have kept busy by trading virtual jabs via social media. Seemingly sowing the seeds for a potential trilogy fight.

The wheels for the final edition of their trilogy saga were set in motion when White posted a quote from McGregor. The post saw McGregor wishing success to his fellow fighters ahead of UFC 249.

Nate Diaz eventually took to the comments section to dish out some discipline. “Shut ur b*tchass up,” said Diaz while sending a message to the Irishman.

Following this, McGregor did not waste any time coming up with a response. “Shut your eyelid and sign the contract,” said McGregor, hinting at a potential rematch between the two.

White denies the possibility of Conor McGregor vs Nate Diaz 3

However, Dana White will not have it. The UFC President has poured cold water any and all such rumors. Speaking about the long time-rivals during the UFC 249 post-fight conference, White offered some clarity over their collective future.

“No. I mean, they don’t like each other, but, no, there’s nothing going on. Conor wants to fight, I don’t even know if Nate wants to fight. I think they are just talking s*it to each other,” said White during the press conference.

The two southpaws initially met in March 2016 while headlining UFC 196. The fight ended up in favor of Diaz, who bagged the win with a rear-naked choke. Diaz took the fight on short notice, replacing Rafael Dos Anjos. However, their second match-up saw McGregor pick up the win via majority decision.
