Chael Sonnen doesn’t need to be a fighter to trash talk someone. Despite donning the analyst’s hat, Chael doesn’t mind taking a jibe at his former rivals. This time around, he has poked fun on the man he once fought for the UFC Lightweight belt, Jon Jones.

The current 205-pound kingpin, Jones, is in the news due to his name being linked with Francis Ngannou for a dream matchup. The two have been going back-and-forth on social media. They both want a substantial increase in their payday to fight each other. However, Jones’ monetary demands were not met by UFC President Dana White.

Consequently, Jones went on a Twitter tirade against White and the UFC. He even wanted to take some time off from the sport if his demands were not met. As of now, there has been a stalemate from both Jones and the UFC over the issue. However, that won’t stop Chael from poking fun at Jones.

Chael Sonnen believes he destroyed Jon Jones in their fight

Chael Sonnen never became a UFC champion. However, he had his chances both at Middleweight and Light Heavyweight. While he lost a very close fight against Anderson Silva, Sonnen suffered a first-round knockout loss against Jon Jones. Regardless, that won’t stop the 43-year-old from believing that he destroyed Jones in their meeting.

This isn’t the first instance of two going at each other. When the talks of Jones vs Ngannou began gaining momentum, Chael chipped in with his views for Jones. Even ‘Bones’ replied indirectly, without explicitly mentioning Sonnen’s name.

The audience would love to see a super fight between Jones and Ngannou. Ever since he has returned after spending time away from the sport, people have complained that Jones hasn’t looked as sharp as he was before. He had a questionable win in his last fight against Dominick Reyes. A fight with Ngannou may be the perfect catalyst to bring out a hungrier version of Jon Jones.

As much as the fans want it to happen, negotiations surrounding the fight haven’t reached anywhere. Jones’ last tweet hinted that he isn’t fighting with the UFC any time soon, as he feels betrayed that Dana White has been spreading lies about him.
