Alexander Volkanovski is set to battle Max Holloway on Fight Island. In addition to that, the Australian is engaging in social media mudslinging with former UFC 2 division champion Henry Cejudo. He attacked ‘The Messenger’ over his height and said he looks at the former Champion akin to a challenger. Now, ‘The Great’ made a massive statement regarding a potential cross-divisional fight against UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.

However, he didn’t build on it as he displayed intentions of his sole focus being on Max Holloway and his maiden Featherweight title defense.

“Right now, got a belt to defend, and then there’s probably going to be No. 1 contender. But I mean early next year, if something comes to me, like that fight, I’ll have to take it.”
‘The Great’ went on to praise the Dagestani fighter’s astounding 28-0 MMA record. “Khabib is one of the GOATs as well. Nothing but respect for the dude.”
He went on to talk about his fighting style and strengths. He matched them up to Nurmagomedov’s takedowns and draining the opponent on the mat.
“But I’m very, very hard to hold down. I’ve obviously got the brains. I’ve got the cardio. I’m a freak when it comes to holding on the ground; it’s just almost impossible holding me on the ground.”
Like all fighters, Volkanovski too indicated a common desire to move out of their initial weight division. He says, “Nothing but respect to all the fighters that are in the UFC, but every single one of us wants to prove something. And you know, eventually, I want to prove myself in that lightweight division too.”

A whole host of fighters including Conor McGregor, Dustin Poirier, and Rafael dos Anjos have tried to stop ‘The Eagle’ but have been unsuccessful. Volkanovski has never weighed in at 155 for a fight and going up against the world’s best at that weight will prove to be a herculean task.
