Chael Sonnen believes that Tyron Woodley will be the toughest matchup for Israel Adesanya.
On an Instagram live, the former UFC welterweight champion, Tyron Woodley said that he would move up a weight class and challenge ‘The last Stylebender.’
Moreover, ‘The Chosen One‘ stated that Adesanya is not as good as everyone says. Woodley also claimed that he spotted some holes in the Kiwi’s game during his matches against Yoel Romero and Kelvin Gastelum.

Adesanya was swift to revert to Woodley with this tweet.

Chael Sonnen explains why Tyron Woodley is a tough fight for Israel Adesanya
While many believe that this exchange between the two can give birth to a new rivalry, Chael Sonnen begs to differ. The ‘American Gangster’ asserted that this fight will not happen, as Woodley has at least four more fights at welterweight.
In an interview with Submission Radio, Sonnen said:
“That fight’s not gonna happen! Woodley followed that call out by saying, ‘There are four fights I need to do at welterweight.’ Unless he wins all four, he is not gonna get a shot to be a ‘champ champ.’ “
Furthermore, Sonnen claimed that Tyron is a difficult opponent for Adesanya.
“That’s actually a really hard fight for Adesanya. I mean it really is. The hardest guy to fight is the guy one weight class below you.”

“He’s just a little bit quicker than what you are used to and he can go a little bit longer. Because he’s lighter and he doesn’t get tired quite as fast.”
Sonnen then speculated that this could be a marketing ploy from Tyron Woodley’s side, as Adesanya always responds to call-outs. Hence, giving Woodley the attention he needed.

Woodley vs Adesanya would be an interesting fight to watch. The American packs a decent amount of muscle, and will not be undersized at middleweight. Also, his wrestling background can pose a threat to Adesanya.
Adesanya is coming off a unanimous decision win over Yoel Romero at UFC 248. His next bout will likely be against the Brazilian, Paulo Costa. Meanwhile, Woodley has been out of competition since his loss to Kamaru Usman. He was scheduled to fight Leon Edwards at UFC on ESPN+ 29. But the bout was postponed due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
