Joe Rogan has invited a number of professional wrestlers on his podcast. From The Undertaker to Ric Flair, the 55-year-old has showered his fair share of respect for the sports entertainers. He recently mentioned WWE Icon The Iron Sheik on his podcast and claimed that he was a beast during his prime.

The Iron Sheik is a retired Iranian-American wrestler who rose to fame during the late 60s, 70s, and most importantly, during the 80s. He is a former WWF (Now WWE) World Champion and a former WWF Tag Team Champion. Sheik is one of the biggest names in the history of the sport and one of WWE’s biggest legends.

Joe Rogan describes The Iron Sheik’s workout method

Fellow comedian Dave Smith joined Joe Rogan on the #1977 episode of the latter’s million-dollar podcast. They started talking about the various types of workouts for different combat sports. The 55-year-old then mentioned the training method used by The Iron Sheik. The wrestling legend used to train with clubbells. Rogan said, “The Iron Sheik used to do it. Those big wooden ones.” He added, “You do things like shield-casting. You have this thing in your hand that is like a bat and the weight is weird.”

Rogan proceeded to explain how people work out with the clubbells and watched a video of The Iron Sheik working out with it. He said, “You’re holding these things out and you’re doing all sorts of different exercises… Those things are tremendous for shoulder strength.” It certainly shows how Joe Rogan is well-versed in various workout techniques and training methods.

Dave Smith followed up by mentioning how, despite being such an elite athlete, The Iron Sheik couldn’t beat ‘The Immortal’ Hulk Hogan. He said, “Wasn’t enough to beat Hulk Hogan.” Joe Rogan replied by mentioning how tough The Iron Sheik was as a wrestler in his prime. He said, “That guy was a beast, dude. In real life, he was an elite athlete, elite wrestler.”

Rogan also spoke about Sheik’s roots in Iran. He joked about how some wrestling origins are sometimes made up. However, he didn’t fail to express how much respect he had for the 81-year-old Iranian-American legend. Joe Rogan said, “You never know with these people. He came from Iran, right? I mean, he didn’t lie about that, did he? Back then you could just lie, though.” He added, “We should give him his props because The Iron Shiek was the f***ing man.”

The Iron Sheik was a unique character and he portrayed the villain character exceptionally well. He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame as a member of the class of 2005 by former partner and long-time rival, Sgt. Slaughter.
