The Boston crowd erupted on Saturday, courtesy of the ‘Suga’ show. After an emphatic statement made in the main event of UFC 292, Sean O’Malley has certainly been a hot topic of discussion among fans and pundits alike. Rightly so, the new bantamweight champion is on the verge of becoming a benchmark for numerous aspiring mixed martial artists. After defeating Aljamain Sterling and capturing the bantamweight title, UFC head honcho Dana White expressed his thoughts on O’Malley in the post-fight press conference.

However, the scenario became gripping since White got asked about the comparison of ‘Sugar’ with the likes of numerous UFC greats, which included Ronda Rousey, Brock Lesnar, and Conor McGregor. But how did he respond?

In the post-fight press conference, the UFC president was seen addressing numerous doubts from the media. White’s response to one such doubt surfaced on YouTube by MMA Fighting. Perhaps it was more of a comparison that was posed in front of the 56-year-old. The question was related to the concern over whether Sean O’Malley could surpass the stardom of those UFC greats. The question was seemingly captivating; however, the UFC president took no time to respond.

He said, “Well, It’s not about surpassing them, it’s about whose next and how. When Conor McGregor exploded onto the scenes, he ignited Europe and other parts of the world. And now like Sean O’Malley coming into Boston uh, everywhere I went yesterday and today.”

Hailing ‘Sugar’ he further said, “Hair, shirts and the whole deal. I mean, everyone was wearing O’Malley’s stuff, and you saw the reaction when he won tonight, how the place just erupted.”

As evident from the video, White shed light on why O’Malley had a somewhat similar situation to that of McGregor. The fans buying merchandise for O’Malley in large numbers express how much love and attention the 28-year-old has garnered.

In fact, White seemed convinced that O’Malley could surely reach that spot one day. Defeating Aljamain Sterling has indeed raised O’Malley to a higher platform and Dana White knows it. However, White also got surrounded by some allegations considering Sean O’Malley.

Dana White and his fight against those claims

The UFC president has been under fire since the launch of the O’Malley vs. Sterling fight card. White was accused of handing over the title shot to O’Malley, and being biased toward him. Sterling appeared to be of the opinion that O’Malley wasn’t deserving of the opportunity. But at UFC 292, where O’Malley won via TKO, White got the opportunity to speak out in support of the winner as well as himself.

Speaking of the allegations, White had an elongated statement. He said, “There’s no such thing as ‘Dana White privilege’ in this company. You… you know, they can do that type of sh*t in boxing. If you make it to the top here… you know what I mean? I’m not gonna say that some people can’t catch some breaks sometimes. People are hurt, you know… this and that happens. Certain matchups can’t happen at one time.”

Although Sterling’s comments could seemingly generate buzz among the fans, both eventually respected each other after the bout was over.
