One cannot talk about women’s MMA without mentioning Ronda Rousey. The Olympic medal winner was a pioneer for the sport with her legendary run in Strikeforce and in the UFC. Rousey’s stardom combined with her fighting skills grew women’s MMA and the promotion. Her name features alongside the likes of Brock Lesnar and Conor McGregor on the list of the UFC’s most popular megastars to ever grace the Octagon. Currently a WWE champion, could Rousey make a return to the UFC? Or rather, should she?

Talks of Ronda Rousey calling it quits on her second stint in the WWE have gained traction recently. The 36-year-old recently competed at the Money in the Bank event putting her tag team championship on the line. Her long-time partner Shayna Baszler turned on her, costing her the title and setting up a feud between the pair. However, recent reports suggest that Rousey has informed the WWE of her decision to leave the promotion sooner rather than later.

In her prime, Ronda Rousey was the most prominent figure in women’s MMA. With an Olympic medal on her resume and a dominant Strikeforce run, Rousey changed Dana White‘s mind about women competing in the UFC. After making a reputation for herself in the sport, Rousey left after consecutive devastating losses to Holly Holm and Amanda Nunes.

Now, as talks of a return gain traction, fans believe the game may have gotten too far ahead for Rousey to catch up.

  • Womens mma has caught up to her skillset by now
  • Stop. She got the party started, but she’d get gadooshed in todays game.
  • Terrible. The mma world has outgrown her since she first left the scene years after and made her comeback Vs nunes. You see what happened there.. now imagine if she came back again. Lol stay out of the sport
  • she’d get absolutely washed
  • She has no chance against the actual roaster but she is the only one that can save the wmma actual situation and a fight with Gina Carano would be nice
  • Absolutely demolished lol by 80% of the roster
  • We’ll never see her fight again.
  • She would get steamrolled.
  • Plz no she’s gonna embarrass herself just retire enjoy your kid’s family and retired life

It is speculated that Rousey’s return talks took off partly because of Amanda Nunes’ recent retirement. The consensus GOAT of women’s MMA left the promotion as a defending two-division champion. Many fans and pros, including commentator Jon Anik, believe this could pave the way for Rousey’s return to the UFC.

What did Jon Anik say about Rousey’s return to the UFC?

In a recent interview with MMA Fighting, Jon Anik discussed the possibility of Ronda Rousey returning to the UFC. Anik was of the belief that this was the opportune moment for it. However, he agreed that Rousey’s return to take over the division would be meritorious.

The UFC commentator said, “In a true meritocracy, that’s not gonna sit well with me nor the athletes that have been donating blood, sweat, and tears to mixed martial arts over the last several years.” He further stated that Rousey deserved the opportunity. However, he stated she would return only if she could be competitive.
