The retirement of Amanda Nunes has stirred up the women’s bantamweight division. Ever since the Brazilian fighter hung up her gloves at UFC 289, it opened the floodgates for other contenders to state their claim at the UFC gold. UFC commentator Jon Anik believes the conditions are ripe for the comeback of former UFC champion Ronda Rousey to step up to the occasion.

The 44-year-old firmly holds that ‘Rowdy’ is worthy of the opportunity, despite staying six years away from the Octagon. Further, the UFC play-by-play commentator claims the MMA fighter-turned-wrestler would be competitive, irrespective of the doubts.

In an interview with MMA Fighting, Anik said, “If anyone is worthy of that time of opportunity, it’s probably Ronda Rousey. And I do believe she would be competitive because she would not enter that setting without the guarantee that she would be competitive.”

If ever there was a time, you’re right. It would be absolutely now,” he continued.

The 36-year-old fighter transitioned to professional wrestling after curtailing her illustrious MMA career. The new money-loaded career is touted to be relatively safer than making a trip to the Octagon. In addition, the women’s division has grown competitive since Rousey last competed in the promotion.

Therefore, MMA fans are skeptical about whether Rousey can replicate her earlier success if she makes a comeback. Besides, Anik’s comments didn’t sit well with them as they theorized the former Olympic medalist will have a hard time coping with her opponents.

How did the fans react to Anik throwing Rousey’s name in the mix?

“Womens mma is well beyond where Rhonda was. She does not have a good return if she comes back.”

“I like Anik, but please stop hyping up Ronda. She’s gonna end up getting slept this time.”

“She got that WWE money she chilling”

“Bad take. Rhonda would get destroyed lol”

“Or we could just leave her alone and let her be happy with where shes at in life”

“No man. The game is miles ahead now she should stick to throwing those combos in WWE”

“The fight game has changed so much since Ronda left, I think she’d be eaten alive.”
