Joe Rogan recently discussed the UFC’s new anti-doping program on the ‘Joe Rogan Experience’. He mentioned that the testing process could significantly change when the promotion’s partnership with Drug Free Sport International takes effect in 2024. Rogan advocated the requirement of a relaxed procedure for fighters. However, we have a few reasons why his opinion might be contradictory to his past actions.

The 56-year-old recently had Derek from ‘More Plates More Dates’ on his podcast. There, Joe Rogan seemed to be in support of a more relaxed drug testing process when the UFC splits with USADA. He said, “I would imagine it’s going to be a little more ‘lax and I would support that.” The UFC color commentator made this comment in the wake of Conor McGregor‘s leg injury, which the Irishman sustained in his last fight. Nevertheless, we have reasons to believe that Rogan should not support that kind of freedom to fight since he has been one of the few people who had earlier exposed people to using banned substances. Let us take a look at why.

During the #1905 episode of the JRE podcast, Joe Rogan also had Derek from ‘More Plates More Dates’ when they talked about how big of a physique Dwayne Johnson has. Derek mentioned how the Hollywood A-lister earlier revealed to have taken steroids when he was 18 years old. Yet, that did not turn out well for ‘The Rock’ since he suffered from gynecomastia, which is the enlargement of the breast tissue in men. Rogan found that suspicious.

Joe Rogan and Derek took a look at ‘The Rock’s early days in the WWE and how his physique has since changed significantly. He then mentioned how ‘Liver King’ got exposed for using steroids and then proceeded to reveal it in a video. Rogan suggested that the rock should do the same. He said, “‘The Rock’ should come clean right now. He should make a video in response to the ‘Liver King’ video. ‘I need to talk to you. ‘The Rock’s been lying.'” Not only Dwayne Johnson, but he also once took a dig at Conor McGregor as well. Let’s take a look at that front.

Joe Rogan once claimed Conor McGregor would “melt” the USADA’s testing cup

It has almost been more than two years since we saw Conor McGregor break his leg in his last fight against Dustin Poirier. Joe Rogan mentioned how serious and life-altering such an injury can be for a fighter because they never get back to the peak of their abilities due to such injuries. Nevertheless, after a year of inactivity, McGregor was seen busy enjoying his life outside the Octagon. From attending F1 Grand Prix races to attending combat sports events, ‘The Notorious’ kept himself busy while not being active as a fighter.

Joe Rogan mentioned how Conor McGregor’s body physique changed during his time out of action. He talked about the former double champion posting pictures of him, posing without his shit and flexing his muscles. It seemed a bit suspicious to Rogan that McGregor had gotten so big, and as such, he proceeded to comment on the Irishman.

The 56-year-old said, “He’s taking his shirt off and posing constantly and he looks like his pi** would melt that USADA cup.” He added, “Like, it will just like burn a hole right through the bottom of that USADA cup.” These statements and the fact that he had exposed people to using PEDs and steroids do not seem to be fitting for the UFC to relax their testing process. Meanwhile, let’s take a look at one more reason why a relaxed testing process could affect the sport of MMA.

USADA splitting with the UFC could prove to have a detrimental effect on MMA

The United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) is known for its sudden and frequent drugs out-of-competition drug tests. Many fighters have expressed their displeasure with this method. However, it has been able to keep the MMA fighters and other athletes in check. Since the USADA’s partnership with the UFC, more than two dozen fighters have faced suspensions for illegal use of banned substances. However, that may not be the case with Drug Free Sport International, which also holds tests for the NFL.

In an article posted by ‘Bleacher Report‘, it was revealed that every NFL player on the roster undergoes testing for performance-enhancing drugs and even street drugs each year before the beginning of training camp. Interestingly, for players who are not enrolled in the NFL drug program, this is the sole occasion when they are tested for illegal street drugs. This means that if an illegal substance is not mentioned in the prohibited list, athletes could freely partake in using PEDs. When UFC’s new partners come into play, there could be more fighters using banned substances, resulting in the sport of MMA getting a bad reputation.

The aforementioned reasons are important for the UFC to consider before they aim to create a more free testing process. This could affect the promotion, their fighters, and even the sport of MMA as a whole. Joe Rogan should take a look at these instances and understand the significance of the drug-testing process. With less than a month away from the start Drug Free Sport International’s partnership with UFC, we will have to wait and see how Dana White and Co. go about their anti-doping program in 2024.
