Things were unquestionably difficult for Zimbabwean welterweight Themba Gorimbo when he came to the United States. But his struggles moved many people, including WWE legend and Hollywood A-lister Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson. Meanwhile, he also had help from his teammates from MMA Masters, especially Colby Covington, who he deemed to be a “great man.” But the story has taken an unexpected turn because Gorimbo recently laid a surprising accusation on ‘Chaos’.
During a recent interview, Themba Gorimbo was revealed to have been mistreated by Colby Covington. Apparently, the Zimbabwean fighter was banished from training at the UFC’s Performance Institute by the former interim welterweight champion. It’s a surprising revelation, given that only a few months ago, Gorimbo was all praises when it came to Covington.
“I was at the PI training and then, as I got on the treadmill, Colby walks in and then he kicks me out of the PI,” Themba Gorimbo told ‘Inside Fighting’. “He tells the guy that works at the PI that, ‘Hey, when I see that guy,’ meaning me, who is his teammate.”

Although the message wasn’t a direct one, Gorimbo was gutted because he was Colby Covington’s teammate, after all, at MMA Masters, and heavily emphasized the same during his revelation. “He didn’t tell me directly. He told the guy, and the guy came to me [and] He’s like, ‘Themba, he’s cutting weight.’ I understand, maybe he’s cutting weight, but you know, I’m your teammate,” Gorimbo added.

Not only did the act from Colby Covington make Themba Gorimbo feel dejected, but it also made him make an important decision – to move on to a new gym.

Teammates no more! Yes, Themba Gorimbo decided to make a significant decision to find a new team and a new gym to train at after being shown the door by Colby Covington from the UFC PI. But before that, he tried to have a word with all the coaches and the staff, but would later learn that there’s nothing he can do because the former interim champion is a “cash cow,” given that he’s been a pay-per-view main eventer.

“When he did that to me, I was like, ‘Okay, cool. This is it… This is the end of it.’ I tried to speak to the coaches when they came back to Miami about it but, you know what? Colby pays, man. Colby is a cash cow, so those values of money over morals for me were not standing,” Themba Gorimbo added. He didn’t say anything about being in contact with any other team, but fans would hope that he finds the gym where he feels comfortable enough to continue his UFC journey.
Well, this isn’t the first time when ‘Chaos’ has had ‘gym-related’ problems with a UFC fighter. His fallout with former best friend Jorge Masvidal and the subsequent departure from the American Top Team is well-documented and culminated in a rubber fight at UFC 272. What do you have to say about Themba Gorimbo’s accusation over Colby Covington? And do you think Dwayne Johnson will have any say in this situation? Drop your comments below.
