Dillon Danis is a professional troll. Ostensibly a professional fighter with the Bellator, the New Jersey native has only two fights on his record. He is mostly known for being a social media personality and being Conor McGregor‘s friend and training partner.
Danis is scheduled to make his professional boxing debut in a bout against Logan Paul on October 14 in the co-main event for card headed by the KSI vs. Tommy Fury fight in Manchester, England. The Bellator fighter has been in red-hot form on social media, with his deluge of memes and insults directed at Paul’s fiancee Nina Agdal. And in a recent podcast appearance, Danis revealed the origins of his love for trolling and trash-talk.

According to Dillon Danis, he was an avid fan of the WWE in his childhood. Seeing superstars like ‘The Rock’ and ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin during the Attitude Era of the WWE influenced his views on the role of trash-talk in combat sports.
“I just always have that in me, I just understood the spectrum. I think maybe I grew up like on wrestling, on the Attitude Era. And just the build-up. I remember how fun it was when we used to watch Stone Cold and The Rock going at each other. And I thought it was real when I was a kid… and like I just love the build-up,” he told the host.
Danis thinks this helped him get close to Conor McGregor

When he met McGregor, their common view on how to promote fights and create hype was one of the reasons they became friends. The 30-year-old told the host that he had learned a lot from the two-division champion.

“And then when me and Conor got together. I think he understood that I got the game and I learned so much from him like it’s crazy. And we just connected on a lot of levels. From loving martial arts, from loving training, from loving everything about fighting,” he said.

After Danis’ relentless trolling of Logan Paul on social media, fans are eagerly waiting to see the two face each other. However, it seems Danis, who learned from the best, has successfully put their tactics to good use since there couldn’t have been better marketing for the fight. Even if according to many, perhaps rightfully, he went too far.
