Alex Pereira seems to have developed a cult following in the UFC, which was evident during his recent successful title defense at UFC 307. After putting on an epic fight against Khalil Rountree Jr., the fans joined him in when he chanted “Chama,” to show their appreciation for the striking master. This led UFC legend Chael Sonnen to compare him to Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, especially due to Pereira’s entertaining quality.
“There is something going around Alex Pereira… This guy is embracing the entertainment side,” Sonnen told Daniel Cormier on the ‘Good Guy/Bad Guy’ show. He further added, “On the way out of the Arena, the crowd stuck right after the main event and he begins a ‘Chama’… he begins a chant and they’re doing it back.”
The comparisons with ‘The Rock’ primarily centered on the fact that ‘The Bad Guy’ has hardly seen any fighter who can go toe-to-toe with the former WWE champion when it comes to engaging the fans with their presence. “The Rock is about the only entertainer out there that can get the audience to engage… We’ve got a guy who doesn’t even speak the tongue natively and he’s the one leading this. I really have never seen anything like Pereira,” Sonnen explained.

While the comparison with Dwayne Johnson is one thing, a serious case can be made for Alex Pereira being on par with Conor McGregor as well. But why? Well, he seemed to have had a ‘Mystic Mac’ moment at UFC 307 as well, and that was revealed by none other than the boss, Dana White.
Alex Pereira’s ‘Mystic Mac’ moment against Khalil Rountree Jr.
There’s hardly been any fighter who’s been able to predict their rise in the UFC like Conor McGregor did back in the day during the peak of his UFC run. Well, we might have to add Alex Pereira to that list because Dana White, during the post-fight pressers, revealed that the light heavyweight champion told him the exact way in which he was aiming to beat Khalil Rountree Jr. and that’s exactly how things went down.

“He said listen,’ This guy hits hard. He’s tough [and] he’s this, he’s that, but my fight IQ will win this fight.’ He said that in the combo feature and that’s exactly the way it played out,” Dana White told the media. Well, it seems like ‘Poatan’ is slowly and surely entering the G.O.A.T. conversation as he continues to rack up one knockout win after the other.
