Ronda Rousey is undoubtedly one of the most well-known faces in the entire world of combat sports. The former UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion, was also the first female fighter to be signed by the UFC. After the UFC, she also made her entry into the world of pro wrestling by joining the biggest franchise of the sport, the WWE. Rousey was one of the first female fighters to enter the realm of glamour. She has also made it to some of the most viewed TV talk shows like ‘The Ellen Show,’ and ‘The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon,’ to name a few. Rousey is also noted for her commentary on mental issues, mostly ‘suicidal thoughts’.

TMZ posted a video of Rousey, where she talked about how suicidal thoughts are plaguing a large part of the population. She also described how there’s a ‘stigma’ about ‘avoiding discussions’ regarding this issue.

Ronda Rousey revealed suicidal issues in her own family

The video initially showcased Rousey talking about how suicides have been tormenting her own family. She said, “There’s a history of suicides in my family.”

She went on, “My dad and his father, both took their lives.” Ronda also described how she thinks that “Suicide’s the no.1 killer of young teens.”

Rousey has always been very vocal about suicidal issues, even on public platforms. She stated how she does, “A lot of work with Didi Hirsch Mental Health Services,” which is a free mental healthcare organization in Los Angeles, America.

Rousey wants to erase the stigma of suicidal thoughts

‘Rowdy’ narrated how she worked toward “erasing the stigma,” towards suicide, and thereby, “Making it acceptable for people to actually talk about it.” She also described how she has never sighed away from talking about suicide or anything like that. Rousey stated, “It has really heavily affected our family,” and she would make every effort, “To make sure that it affects as few people as possible, I would be happy to do that.”

She further said, “I don’t understand why it’s looked at like a bad thing.”

Rousey had faced the backlash of netizens for never getting back in the octagon again, following her defeat against Amanda Nunes, at ‘UFC 207’. She had also stated how she felt suicidal after her second loss, and some chose to dig upon that as well.

Gaining her experience from these incidents, she said, “I just gave her an honest answer. Now in hindsight I’m realizing it’s a lot more abnormal than I thought.” It was apparent from her words that the stigma of talking freely about suicidal thoughts was very much still prevalent in a lot of people.
