The $21 billion deal that saw WWE and the UFC merge under Endeavor has given the MMA and the pro wrestling community much to talk about. The latest to chime in on this was BMF star Jorge Masvidal, who’s going to step into the cage at UFC 287 against Gilbert Burns in just a few days’ time.
While addressing these developments to the media ahead of his fight, the MMA veteran shared his belief in how this deal could turn out to be a great one for the UFC fighters. Considering that Masvidal has been in the fight game for close to two decades, his perspective on it might come from his experience with the struggles of being a professional fighter.

Speaking to reporters as part of his media duties for UFC 287, ‘Gamebred’ gave a unique take on the massive deal that will see WWE and UFC come together under the same parent organizations. While there is no doubt it comes with the possibility of interesting creative work to set around the pro wrestling scripts, Masvidal’s take came from a fighter’s perspective who has been in the game for a long time now.
“I love it. I think it just opens more doors for both you know. Guys over there like Brock Lesnar-type cases you know” he expressed.
The 38-year-old then explained how it could open up avenues for retired fighters to move into the pro wrestling scene; helping them earn an extra paycheck.
“Fighters that maybe are done fighting and they want to go over there and earn a paycheck; hopefully that it’s a smooth avenue and there’s no barricades.” he stated.
For Masvidal, it came down to the fact that making a living through fighting was not an easy task to accomplish. Especially when win and losses are factored in, he explains how a fighter never has guaranteed money before stepping into the cage.
“Two guys are going to walk in, only one guy’s gonna win, and the guys that win more often they’ll get a little bit of money but not guaranteed money.” He then also hoped that the parties involved would also make the transition for fighters an easy process. “Hopefully, the UFC and Endeavor can make it easier for them to transition once they’re too old to compete.”
Masvidal addresses retirement plans after UFC 287
While his take on the Endeavor deal and how it benefits fighters is interesting in itself; the MMA veteran had talked about his own retirement plans during a recent edition of UFC countdown. Masvidal had claimed that a loss against Burns could possibly mean an end to his fighting career.
“This could be the last one. If I lose, I’m pretty much calling it quits,” he claimed.

Although it appears that he has seemingly confirmed his plans in case of a loss, the 38-year-old’s association with the sport means he’d probably stick around with promotional work for his organization, Gamebred FC, or maybe a special appearance in the WWE ring?
