When it comes to the greatest female MMA fighters, Ronda Rousey is a name one surely cannot ignore. The American wrestler is believed to be one of the pioneers of female combat sports who dominated the bantamweight division of the UFC. She garnered global attention through her stunning fighting style and fearless personality.

‘Rowdy’ was the first female athlete in the history of America to win an Olympic medal in women’s judo. Given all these achievements, Rousey was famous among other star athletes and often received praises from them.
The American judoka competed in numerous UFC title fights. However, one of her most talked about title fights came against Bethe Correia. It took place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and headlined UFC 190 in August 2015.
Correia indulged in heavy trash-talk in the lead-up to the fight. She took it too far by involving Rousey’s family and other personal problems. Therefore, before her fight, the female wrestler received a lot of support from her fellow compatriot athletes. Interestingly, ‘Rowdy’ lived up to the hype. She displayed absolute dominance inside the cage and knocked out Correia in just 34 seconds of the very first round. With this victory, Rousey defended her bantamweight title for the sixth consecutive time in the UFC.

‘Rowdy’ enjoyed quite an amazing reign in the women’s MMA from Strikeforce to UFC. However, it didn’t last long for the former champion and things went south for her after the UFC 190.

Following her sixth successful bantamweight title defense, Rousey was set for her next against former boxing champion Holly Holm. However, this time around, it wasn’t her day. Holm defeated Rousey in the second round of the fight at UFC 193.

After that, she lost another bout against Amanda Nunes. Her second loss came in the very first round of the fight via a devastating knockout at UFC 207. These two defeats became the reason ‘Rowdy’ left the sport forever, as they had a heavy toll on her. Nevertheless, she had done enough in the sport to receive the highest honor– The UFC Hall of Fame in 2018.
