Jon Jones is widely considered to be the best mixed martial artist in the world. And John Cena is considered to be the best professional wrestler in the world at the moment, or at the very least, the most famous one. And unlike their names, which share a phonetic similarity, the sports that they engage in are completely different.

While both involve wrestling, grappling, and striking, one is a scripted sport that aspires (and succeeds) in maximizing the entertainment quotient, the other involves two trained fighters doing their best to temporarily sever their opponent’s connection to consciousness. And now it seems the two worlds have collided, and fans are not happy about it.

The UFC and WWE have merged officially. Endeavor, the UFC’s parent company has purchased a majority stake in the WWE. Their merger has created the new TKO Group Holdings. Vince McMahon will no longer have the majority voting control of the WWE and Dana White is no longer the President of the UFC but will serve as the CEO of the UFC from now on.

And after the most successful MMA promotion and pro wrestling promotions merger, a picture of UFC heavyweight champion and former WWE champion John Cena facing off has been doing the rounds of the internet. This has given rise to a possible crossover between the two promotions, which saw fans go up in arms.

Fans react to Jones and Cena facing off

Predictably, fans did not take kindly to the prospect of a crossover fight between ‘Bones’ and Cena. Here is a sample of what the fans wrote about it.

One fan felt the matchup was ridiculous and what fans need is a fight between female streamer Bad Bunny and BMF belt-holder Justin Gaethje:

“No, we need bad bunny vs Justin gaethje lol”

Another pleaded to keep the UFC and WWE separate:

“As a fan of both wwe and ufc, please keep them separate at all costs”

Another cheekily suggested that Cena will win most of the time as Jones won’t be able to see him:

“Cena wins 9/10 times. Jon is more skilled all around but Cena has the power of invisibility.”

One said if Cena fights Jones, it might turn out badly for him:

“Rest in peace John Cena. We can’t see him. But if he fight Bones we won’t see him anymore”

Another agreed:

“yeah i dont wanna see cena die”

One fan was against the prospect of their match and pointed out the differences between the two promotions:

“Trash! How you mix scripted, juvenile, foolery with an actual mma competition?”

Another was disgusted by the post:

One user wrote that Jones will pull out his bag of tricks to beat an ‘invisible’ John Cena:

“Jones is still gonna manage to eye pokes cena even tho he can’t see him ,”

While the merger is a savvy business move and will cut costs for both, fans do not favor a crossover between the two. While fighters such as Ronda Rousey have found success in the WWE and Brock Lesnar & CM Punk have tried their hands at MMA to varying levels of success, fans clearly want to keep the scripted and unscripted fighting apart.
