Mental health can be a tricky road for famous athletes to deal with. As public figures, they have to deal with a lot of opinions, and withdrawing from something as important as the Olympics can hugely disappoint them. Gymnast Simone Biles, who had withdrawn from the Olympics, had received a lot of objection. This left Joe Rogan frustrated.

In episode #1689, Rogan discussed the matter with guest Yannis Pappas. He said, “So many people are sh*tting on her online and calling her a coward. It’s disgusting. Like, you have no idea what’s going on in her head. She’s supposed to play when she’s suic*dal?”

“Is she supposed to play when she’s freaking out? Is she supposed to do gymnastics when she’s literally losing her mind? Like, you, when people get off prescription dr*gs like, Jordan Peterson was f**ked up for a whole year. He was trying to get of benzodiazepine.”

Both the personalities read articles related to the Simone Biles situation.

As reported by ‘Insider‘, Biles’ confidential medical history was illegally released in 2016, which led her to address the issue. She even wrote several tweets about ADHD and medication.

However, her withdrawal from the Olympics last year was met with quite a lot of criticism. The criticism is what bothered the Spotify podcaster.

Rogan and Pappas went on to discuss Christopher Bells’ ‘Biger, Stronger, Faster’: a documentary released in 2008, which discussed the use of substances and various medications in sports.

Joe Rogan on Olympics rules

The JRE podcaster further went on to talk about how far Biles has taken the sport. However, he had a question about the Olympic rules.

He asked, “Aren’t they changing rules because she can do sh*t that other people can’t do?”

Rogan went on to mention a video that described how rules were being altered to make Biles’ performance ‘less impressive’.

The UFC commentator and his guest also discussed what Olympic medalists might be doing once the events are over.

The use of medications or banned substances has always been a subject of debate in sports. Years ago, Rogan also spoke about the use of banned substances in the UFC and MMA. As reported by ‘MMA Junkie‘, Rogan said, “The UFC and MMA in general is a ster*id epidemic”.

However, with USADA regularly testing fighters, the sport seems to have evolved and encourages clean competition.
