‘Baltimore Bullet’ Phelps ended his career with a total of 28 Olympics medals. Out of those, 23 were Gold. While his achievements in the pool are commendable, Joe Rogan was once surprised by Phelps’ workout routine.
In episode #833 with guest Brian Redban, Joe Rogan discussed the Olympic legend’s training schedule, referred to an article, and read out a part of the swimmer’s training.
Post that, Rogan said, “So it’s mostly swimming stuff, it seems like, and some body weight exercises, crunches, and squats. But the majority of his stuff is about laps.”
Joe Rogan further read Phelps‘ routine and concluded, “He’s an animal. Just think about doing that. Sprints with high intensity. What is a high intensity to the greatest swimmer the world’s ever known? Can you even imagine operating those RPMs that he considers high-intensity?”
“He’s a beast. … You have to have like an insanely powerful mind to be able to do something that everybody can do, like swim and do it faster than anybody ever. You got to be a f**king real, just super focused psycho. I don’t mean psycho in a bad way.”

This amazed Rogan, who wanted to know the reason for Attia’s motivation. As revealed by the open water swimmer, Penny Dean, a long-distance swimmer, inspired him. The details of Dean’s abilities shocked The Joe Rogan Experience host.
Thus, needless to say, Joe Rogan was awestruck by the stories they discussed pertaining to swimmers.
